  3. Create the export. Choose your delivery method (download link by email is fine for most users) and click "Create export". Google emails you when the archive is ready — usually within a few minutes.
  4. Unzip and import. Unzip the archive, locate the location history JSON or KML files, and drag them into Lumo on lumoprofiler.com.

FAQ

Where is the Timeline data stored after export?

Wherever you saved it — typically the Downloads folder on Android, the Files app on iPhone, or your default download folder on desktop. Lumo never uploads it; you drag the file directly into the browser tab.

What file formats does Google Maps Timeline export use?

Modern exports produce JSON files. Older exports and Google Takeout also produce KML for routes. Lumo accepts both formats.

How large are typical Timeline exports?

A few megabytes per year of active usage is typical. Heavy users can see exports of 50–200 MB across many years. Lumo handles large files by streaming and using a Web Worker for parsing.
